100 g of the syrup contain:

  • Active substance:
    Complex fluid extract (1:1) from: rhubarb root (Rhei radice), black dogwood bark (Frangulae cortice), fennel fruit (Foeniculi fructu), caraway fruit (Carvi fructu) (5/4/0.5/0.5) -10,0 g
    [Extractant: ethanol 50% v/v]

15 ml of the syrup (one table spoon) contains 12.7 mg of anthranoid compounds, converted into glucofranguline A.

The syrup contains up to do 3.5% m/m of ethanol.

Packaging: 125 g of the preparation.

What is RHELAX® and why it is used

The syrup of Rhelax® has laxative effects and is traditionally used in case of constipations. 1,8 dihydroanthracene derivatives contained by black dogwood bark influence motor function of colon, accelerate intestinal passage and reduce fluid resorption. Laxative effects appear within 6-8 hours from taking the drug.

Indications for application

The syrup of Rhelax® is a drug traditionally used in case of constipations.

Before you apply RHELAX®

Do not use Rhelax®, if the following occur:

  • hypersensitivity to the active substance or any auxiliary substance
  • ileus,
  • intestinal atonia,
  • acute and chronic inflammatory diseases of intestines (among others: ulcerative large intestine inflammation, Leśniowski-Crohn disease),
  • appendicitis,
  • diarrhea,
  • dehydration and electrolyte disorders,
  • stomach aches of unclear etiology.

Observe special care while applying Rhelax®

Because of 12.4 g saccharose content in one table spoon of the syrup, the drug should not be administered to diabetics.
In case of individuals with hemorrhoids, anal fissures, after surgery of anal region and in case of long-term immobilization, it is recommended to consult a physician.
The drug should be applied in case of constipations when diet and other, non-pharmacological, treatment methods fail.
Do not use without physician's consultation longer than 1-2 weeks. Long-term application may lead to weakening of intestinal peristalsis and disturbances of water-electrolyte balance. Avoid application during menstruation. Patients with diagnosed intolerance of saccharose should consult a physician before taking the drug. The medical product contains up to 3.5 % m/m of ethanol (alcohol), which is up to 700 mg of ethanol in one table spoon, which is equivalent to 14 ml of beer or 5.8 ml of wine.

Application of the syrup of Rhelax® in children

It is not recommended to apply in children younger than 12 years of age.

Pregnancy and breast feeding

The drug should not be applied during pregnancy and breast feeding.

Driving of vehicles and operation of moving mechanisms

No data concerning influence on the ability to drive vehicles and operate moving mechanisms.

Use of other drugs

Intensification of digitalis glycosides effects and anti-arrhythmic drugs may occur as a result of potassium deficiency during long-term use of Rhelax®. Potassium losses may increase in case of simultaneous administration of diuretics, adrenocorticosteroids and licorice root.

It is necessary to inform a physician about all the recently taken drugs, even those sold without prescription.

How to apply RHELAX®

Adults: 30 ml (2 table spoons) before sleep, which is 25.4 mg of anthranoid compounds converted into glucofranguline A.
Children over 12 years of age: 10-15 ml (2 to 3 tea spoons) before sleep, which is from 8.5 to 12.7 mg of anthranoid compounds converted into glucofranguline A.

Consult a physician, if you think that effects of Rhelax® are too strong or too weak.

In case of taking higher than recommended dose of Rhelax®

So far, no symptoms of overdose have been observed during application of the preparation of Rhelax®.

Immediately consult a physician or a pharmacist in case of taking higher than recommended dose of the drug.

In case of skipping the dose of the drug

Do not apply a double dose in order to supplement the omitted one.

Possible undesired effects

As every drug, Rhelax® may cause undesired effects. Allergic reactions to the preparation components may sporadically occur. Spastic gastro-intestinal complaints, requiring dose reduction, may appear in isolated cases.
In case of other undesired effects, not mentioned here, it is necessary to inform a physician or a pharmacist.

Storage of RHELAX®

Store the drug at the temperature not exceeding 25°C.
Store out of reach and sight of children.
Do not use the drug after expiry date stated on the package.
